Colònies Estiu Pyrene 2024

WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING IN RETURN

WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING IN RETURN

Great start to the 5th shift. The northern air makes everything clear and bright, it seems to give us energy and clarify our ideas, maybe that’s why we have had such a good start to the penultimate shift of the Pyrene Summer Camp of this summer 2024.

Today Minairons discovered the surroundings of the camp. We did the Orienteering Race, played in the river, and built the first cabins. Junior Adventure took turns doing orienteering, community services and mountain biking. Bold Adventure did the orienteering race and community services. Wild Adventure went mountain biking down from Cap del Rec to Prullans, where we rode horses on the Hípica 4 potes. The Bike Junior by Orbea camp explored the surroundings on bikes and had a mechanics and tuning workshop. In the Advanced Horse Riding Camp, we met our companions for the week, the horses, and had pairings and our first ride and games on horseback. The Trekking 7×7 is already in Prat d’Aguiló, on the slopes of the Cadí, where they will spend the night in order to cross to Berguedà tomorrow via Pas dels Gosolans tomorrow.

Some campers asked, “What are we going to do in community services?” And a fellow camper who has been to Pyrene for several summers replied, “You’ll see, you’ll sweat”, and another said, “Last year I got a blister on my hand that lasted two weeks”.

We worked with Sergi, a forest engineer from Cerdanya, who gave us ideas and tasks to do around the camp. From repainting trail markers, clearing and removing stones from paths, rebuilding wooden bridges over streams and cleaning shepherds’ huts.

Today, the Bold Adventure camp have rebuilt a bridge to make it easier for hikers to cross the stream. At first it seemed like an impossible challenge, until we got down to work. Here you can see the result:

Once the bridge was finished, the new Bold Adventure campers were able to explain to their Junior Adventure colleagues, who will be doing community services tomorrow, what it means to work in the mountains without expecting anything in return.

PS: Junior Adventure colleagues… we have cleaned and dried your gloves so that tomorrow you will have them clean, dry, and ready to continue working!
